Our mission of 'Making God's Love Real' can not be better demonstrated than providing space for families to raise fresh produce.
We started our community gardens in 2017 with four demonstration gardens at the west end of our parking lot. The focus was on education and awareness programs while exploring the idea of turning the waste area that had been part of our parking lot into gardens. We installed two elevated (wheelchair accessible) gardens and two 4’ X 8’ raised beds on top of the asphalt. The response encouraged us to reclaim a 150' X 300' area. The second year we built five 16' X 16' raised bed garden plots that produced lettuce, radishes, carrots, peppers, zucchini, pumpkins, cucumbers and beets. |
During the 2020 growing season , we hosted 10 gardens and the Byron Jackson Memorial pepper garden. The gardens produced more than 1,200 pounds of produce that more than 150 neighbors, church family and food pantry participants enjoyed.
Garden plot applications are available from our church office. |
